What a gr-r-reat shot! (Yuk yuk)
Photo of the Day for June 29, 2009On Saturday, Wonder Woman’s folks took us all to the Philadelphia Zoo—which, I must say, is the coolest zoo I’ve ever been to … not only because it was so huge, modernized and well kept, but also because the animals were actually, like, out and about, despite temperatures in the 80s. (Seriously, how many times have you gone to the zoo on a hot summer day and looked at empty habitat after empty habitat? Makes me wonder if some of these zoos actually have the animals they claim to.)
This shot seemed worth sharing, since, as far as I can recall, it’s the closest I’ve ever been to a savage jungle cat, and certainly the closest I’ve ever been with camera in hand.
And, yeah, the picture is a bit marred by the shapes reflected in the protective glass, but that seemed a small sacrifice to make in order to get this photo without running the risk of being, you know, mauled and eaten.

Wow looks almost fake. Great shot!!

Yes, grrreat! Our zoo in Portland, OR has photography classes for people with SLRs and I just got one so I was soo excited, then I realized I need a telefoto lens. Time to go shopping!

Wicked cool pic; last trip to Oakland Zoo the Big Kahuna Boy (BKB) lion speaks for the first time in my presence. What a voice he hides below that gloriously tousled mane. Most of the little kids (and I as well) shrieked and stepped (ok-stumbled) back as if there were a way it could get to us…
wait….
another zoo, another big cat exhibit……wasn’t it Christmas, too!!
Cats 1, teenage drunken macho lads 0.
Uh huh, uh huh. Thought he couldn’t do it now, dintcha? Uh huh, uh huh…..

I love seeing these majestic animals. We recently went to the Toronto Zoo here in Ontario Canada. The tigers there weren’t behind glass, but the fenced walls were high. It seemed safe enough. They were mostly sleeping. An animals life in a zoo must be pretty boring. Poor things.
