Hi, Biscus!

Photo of the Day for July 2, 2009

Hi, Biscus!

Ree Drummond, a.k.a. The Pioneer Woman, has been publishing a series of articles about how to build a successful blog, and in the comments section of the first installment, a commenter named Dee wrote the following:

“About photos — yep, I like them. But, Please, don’t go on vacation and show me 187 pics of the ocean or don’t show me 459 pics of a flower outside in your garden. For the love of Pete, NO more macros of flowers!”

Sorry, Dee.

Of course, Dee’s comment also included this:

“About cursing: It’s a turn-off absolutely. And the most offensive for me personally is taking the Lord’s name in vain.”

So chances are Dee’s not a fan of mine anyway. (Can you even believe that I just resisted the urge to both curse and take the Lord’s name in vain? Boy oh boy, am I evolving.)

Anyhoo …

My mom-in-law keeps several hibiscus plants around the pool area (one of which you can see behind Wonder Woman in this picture). I quite like them … and I’ve not yet reached Dee’s level of displeasure with flower macros … so, voila: hibiscus macro.

No matter how disaffected you might be with flowertography, you can’t deny that this is a lovely picture.

Well, I suppose I’m not at all evolved because I just love this picture.

I was in on that conversation of Ree’s. I like cursing. I like flowers, even close-ups. Well hell, I guess I’m one step more evolved than a gastropod.

Lived in the south of Franc…. no, really the south of Florida for three decades and once, mind you only once, photographed a Hibiscus flower that was half snow white and half bright pink. Whoa mamama. It stunned even my Gypsy MIL who had planted the bush from which it came in the 60’s.

Cursing, yep, one of my faves… Flowers–gotta love them or what’s the point of anything!

I read Ree’s blog, have yet to comment.

I’m with Lynda – what’s the point of life if we can’t appreciate beautiful flowers?? Or cursing, for that fucking matter. Keep it up!

I have yet to tire of flower or landscape pictures and I’ve taken a zillion of them myself. Keep them coming!

Although I am uncomfortable with cursing (even though I grew up in a house where curse words replaced nearly all adjectives) I enjoy your blog and appreciate your writing. I can’t even begin to narrow down which of your posts is my favorite. I have laughed until my sides ached, enjoyed your photography skills, and gained a whole new perspective on many topics.

    Thank you for blogging!
