I went to a couple of Zan’s tennis lessons last month, and while I was watching from behind the rusty, chain-link fence that surrounds the court, this ball rolled on over and cozied up to me.
Doing this “Photo of the Day” thing for the better part of the past year or so has, in my humble opinion, served one of the primary purposes for which I undertook it, and that is: it has made me a better photographer.
A year ago, I would never in a million years have thought to take this picture. And I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece among masterpieces, but in my little world, it’s a pretty cool shot that experience taught me was worth trying to capture.
Of course, you should see how many positively asstastic shots I have to take in order to come up with a keeper like this. So maybe I’m not actually a better photographer in the traditional sense … but I sure have learned how to use my camera to carpet-bomb the shit out of my surroundings in the hopes of discovering something semi-decent when I dump the pictures onto my computer.
It’s kind of like using sticks of dynamite to go fishing; every now and then, you’re bound to bring a keeper to the surface.

“asstastic” Hahaha!
great shot!! I usually don’t like fuzzy balls but that one is really something!
Love the description “carpet bomb the area around me” – that is my technique too! Nice fish today.
Somewhere in the hazy distant past, I read that good photographers take lots of pictures, but only have one or two that make the grade out of each shoot. You’re doing fine!
