Taking a break

Photo of the Day for November 25, 2009

My marvelous image

Every time we come down to Philly to visit the in-laws, I generally end up spending most of my time working in my father-in-law’s office at the back of the house while Wonder Woman and the kids go gallivanting around the metro-Philly area, having one delightful adventure after another.

Like yesterday, for example. Yesterday, they went to a kick-ass aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. And I know it’s kick-ass, because I got to go there once, two or three years ago. But not yesterday.

And, without fail, I’m always telling the kids I wish I could go with them, and they’re always telling me they wish I could go with them, and Wonder Woman’s always telling me that the kids are always telling her that they “wish Daddy was here” while they’re out on these various adventures.

Today, they had plans to hit the Please Touch Museum, one of their favorite places to visit when we’re down here … and they have been campaigning since, like, last year to get me to go with them … so I got up early this morning, cranked out a big chunk of my daily workload, hung a metaphorical “Gone fishin’” sign on my metaphorical door, and took off for a few hours.

I had been to the Please Touch Museum once before, a couple years ago … so I was envisioning the relatively small, rather old place we had visited in the heart of the city. Imagine my surprise, then, when Wonder Woman instead directed us to Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park, new home of the massively expanded Please Touch Museum. The inside is even more spectacular than the outside … and everything is brand new, state-of-the-art, extremely colorful and highly interactive.

Sure, during these days of H1N1, I wanted to tell my kids that the place had changed its name to the Please Don’t Touch Anything, Or At Least Not Your Eyes, Nose or Mouth Museum … but, my germ phobia notwithstanding: awesome place. I highly recommend it to all parents of young children.

The museum features, among other things, a number of themed rooms/areas, including a grocery store, a TV studio, an auto shop, a city bus, and a hospital … which brings us to today’s Photo of the Day, starring Dr. Jayna. Diagnosis: chronic cuteness.
