Had to go to the post office last night, well after regular business hours. Fortunately, they have one of those 24-hour kiosks inside … which I prefer anyway, because I’m an antisocial tech geek who would rather run errands after dark.
What was I mailing? Oh, I didn’t go there to mail something. No, I had to go there to weigh a pinewood derby car. Yeah, Zan’s Tiger Cub den/Cub Scout pack have their annual pinewood derby race next Saturday, and did you know how insanely competitive and involved the whole pinewood-derby thing is? Because I sure as hell didn’t. I feel like I’ve spent the past three nights working on a deep-space-exploration vehicle instead of building a doorstop with wheels. (I’ll tell you all about it very soon … because for all of the ridiculousness to which I’ve had to subject myself this week in the name of the pinewood derby, I should at least get a blog entry out of it. So there’s your coming attraction.)
Meanwhile, the upside of last night’s redonkulous toy-car weighing was that I got a cool nighttime shot of the post office out of it. Now just imagine if I actually knew something about nighttime photography … or properly framing a shot … or anything else worthwhile.

Man, you’ve got a nice post office in your parts, classier than what we’ve got in H-town! My husband, aka Big Boober (he’s a boob fan) is helping a friend and his son on his Cub Scout derby car. I agree, it looks like a doorstop with wheels!
Dude, you totally won the Post Office lottery! Ours looks like it’s gone undercover as a storage unit.
