I call this one ‘Big lump of something on a beach, which I shot for no apparent reason’
Photo of the Day for May 10, 2010
Took this one during a late-afternoon walk on the beach in Mexico with my lovely bride (a trip that I still plan to tell you all about, just as soon as I staunch the flow of blood from the sucking chest wound that my professional life has suddenly become). I was going to make up a story about how we saw a deer run into the ocean and get devoured by a Great White shark, after which the deer’s antlers washed up on the shore … but that felt like a lot of work for a fictitious tale that was even more pointless than the photo itself, so I’ll just let the image stand on its own merits … or lack thereof.

I think you just needed something to contrast with the beautiful colors of the sand, sea and sky – that’s what I’m lookin’ at.

Beautiful ocean. As for the driftwood, well. I probably don’t need to tell you what Georgia O’Keefe would have seen in that sucker.

Your blog is awesome–with a cute blue haired kid, to boot. Not everyone could pull that off. I’m adding you to my blog roll. so sorry about your job loss. do you ever read the fantastical and hilarious Susannah of petunia face? she blogged through a long spell of unemployment and has come out on the other side with a job that involves writing. It will be ok.
Best of luck,
Kate (mother of hooligans.)

Lovely picture. If I tweak my imagination a little, I believe that mysterious thing might be looking at me.
What I also find fun is that Kate, Kara, Kate, and Kari Anne all commented on your blog in that order.
And Kara? Sucking chest wounds not only look awful, they sound even worse.
