Saturday Night Fever

Saturday Night Fever

In July of last year, I posted a picture of Times Square that I had taken early on a Saturday morning, and wrote the following:

“Yes, the photo would have been far more impressive if it had been taken at night, when all of Times Square is aglow with enough neon and LEDs to spark 10,000 epileptic seizures, but New York City nightlife isn’t part of the program during these here days of rearing young children, so instead, you get Times Square at 9 a.m. on a Saturday. Try not to hurt yourself yawning.”

Well, yawn no more, for above is the real deal: Saturday night in Times Square. (Did I mention how much fun we had?) OK, so maybe we were climbing into bed at about the same time most people were heading out to party in the big city … but, hey: we were in Times Square after dark. That’s gotta count for something, right?

Definitely counts. It only takes 60 seconds of standing in Times Square at night to create an everlasting memory in a person. Not even a visual memory, necessarily, but a soul-moving, perspective-setting, energy-shifting memory that is as private, personal and individual as it is social and shared by the thousands of people experiencing that very same moment in time.

not sure why NYC draws all of us, it’s a destination for everyone…unless they live there and then they are planning their escape!

Your photo of Times Square in the daytime is really nice. I dare say even better than the night version!

Glad you had a great time in my fair city 🙂

The problem with Times Square at night in January is that it happens at 4 o’clock.

Yes, it counts for plenty!…especially to those of us who don’t leave our homes after dark. I feel like i’ve lived a little just through your picture!
